Academic Specialization: Statistics, Applied Statistics
Research interests: Stochastic inventory/maintenance models, Bayesian applications to inventory, nonparametric estimation, reliability and survival analysis. Analysis of censored and truncated observations.
Professor Ülkü Gürler has been appointed as the Acting Dean to the Faculty of Business Administration of Bilkent Üniversity in October 2016 and has been serving as the Dean since July 2018. She is a also a Professor at the Industrial Engineering Department of Bilkent University since 1990.
Professor Gürler has received her PhD and MS degrees in Statistics from the Wharton School of University of Pennsylvania, and her BS in Applied Statistics from Middle East Technical University in Ankara, Turkey.
As the Dean of the FBA Professor Gürler aims to make FBA the best business school in the country and a reputable one internationally both in research and education in alignment with the mission of the University and the FBA. Business, alumni and stakeholder relations are priorities for Dean Gürler and she considers them as building blocks of a good business school, together with the student body, faculty members and supporting professionals of the FBA. This perspective leaded to the re-acrreditation of the Bilkent FBA for another five years by the international prestigious institute AACSB in June 2021, with high achivement.
Professor Gürler has been at University of California, Davis and Catholique University of Leuvain as visiting researchers. Her research interests include stochastic inventory and maintenance models, Bayesian applications to inventory modeling, analysis of perishable inventories, relieability and survival analysis. Her papers have appeared in the leading journals of her field including Journal of American Statistical Association, Operations Research, Production and Operations Management, European Journal of Production Economics, IIE Transactions, Journal of Multivariate Analysis and Biometrika.
